For What It's Worth

My thoughts on journalism.

I believe that journalism is heading in a new direction and that direction is online. At some point in the future journalism more or less newspaper are going to become a thing of the past. Thankfully I will be able to deal with this change because I am one of the future journalists who have the necessary skills that newspapers will be looking for. The future of journalism is going to be online all signs have pointed to this. My generation contains computer skills and those will become vital in journalism especially when the older generations fall behind the curve.

Former Sun-Times columnist Jay Marrioti came to the realization that newspapers are going to become obsolete at some point and got out before it happened. I believe that my knowledge of computers will help me obtain a job in the next year. Having the ability to know how to use a computer will put me ahead of those already in the field. Which is comforting to know considering they have the job I want.

The only fear I have about enetering the field of journalism is not being able to find a job. However, I am confident that something will come up if I look hard enough and put effort into it. My goal is to get a job in Chicago or atleast be able to come back here a few years. There is nothing like Chicago sports and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my life then covering them.

I’m also hoping that economy stabilizes by time I graduate in 2010. I’m looking for an internsip with the hopes that it will lead to bigger and better things in the future. The work is there I just have to go out and get it. Until I find that job or internship I will continue to perfect my craft and build up clips for my resume so that when the time comes I will be ready.
