Old School Nickelodeon
I always like reminiscing with friends about the television shows we used to watch as kids. There were a number of good shows particularly on Nickelodeon. My earliest memories were that of Eureka’s Castle and David the Gnome. With out a doubt my two favorite shows as a child. Today kids are cheated when it comes to the shows that are put on TV. While I don’t necessarily remember any particular episodes, however what I do remember is that they kept me entertained as a tot.
As I grew older I would be fortunate enough to see some other great shows on Nickelodeon. Such as Double Dare, Wild n’ Crazy Kids, What Would You Do, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Ren and Stimpy, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Welcome Freshman, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Angry Beavers, Aaaaah Real Monsters and Rocko’s Modern Life just to name a few. Double Dare was my favorite of the game shows on during that time. I’m talking about the original Double Dare none of this Double Dare 2000 crap. Marc Summers was a good game show host. Summers suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder in which he must have everything neat and orderly. Ironically he was the host of a show where messiness and disarray were common place.
Salute Your Shorts was another great show. It was definitely my favorite comedy show on Nickelodeon in the mid-90s. My favorite episode was when Dr. Khan’s niece Ellen was in town and she was raising hell throughout the whole camp. Basically she was pissing off all the kids so they got her back pretty good. If you’ve seen the episode you know what I’m talking about. The episode is called ironically Ellen comes to camp. My second favorite episode was Capture the flag. My favorite character was Pinsky by far.
I am disappointed in the fact that none of these great shows are on DVD. Well legal forms of those DVD anyways. There are a number of bootleg copies for these shows out there. Other fans of these shows including myself have petitioned Nickelodeon as well as Viacom to put them on DVD, but nothing doing. It sucks because they would make a killing on every one of these if they released them on DVD. Don’t quote me on it, but I believe Rocko’s Modern Life is one of top five most requested DVD’s that have yet to be released. Some of these have been released on DVD, but it is not enough to satisfy me or any one else who is a fan of these shows.
