For What It's Worth

Getting my twitter on.

I’m on twitter now and I’m not sure what to make of it. Originally when I heard about it I thought to myself here we go again. Yet another social site that one way or another I will fall victim to.

Alas I was right, but not by choice however. I signed up solely because it was part of the class. I already have a “twitter” feature on Facebook. I remember when they called it a status.

I decided to make the best of it. I signed up and started twittering and following people and having people follow me. I even went so far as customizing my background to my liking. I had a few issues with twitter with in the first few hours.

While attempting to search out for people I know, bands and random celebrities I was told that I had reached my search limit. I stared angrily at my screen and said wtf?! How are you going to limit how many times I want to search? Needless to say I was not happy upon seeing this. Perhaps they were limiting searches to eliminate spammers. Which leads me to my next point.

We were told follow people in our class, which I have no problems with, but within a few hours registering to the site a number of random groups and people who I don’t know began to add me. I was not pleased. I don’t know you why are you adding me? Perhaps the name I had chosen had something to do with it or the people I decided to follow. Either way I do not approve. Unless it’s a band, celebrity or organization I don’t understand how you can add someone you don’t even know. My twitter bashing doesn’t end there unfortunately.

I tried to sign on to twitter yesterday morning and was told too many tweets are going on and I couldn’t sign on. What is that ? I can’t sign on because too many people are twittering, weak sauce.  Aside from the negative things I’ve pointed out about twitter I think it’s not half bad.

Actually in the process of adding friends I convinced some friends who haven’t used twitter in awhile to take a second look. Having influence rocks! J/k I see this being a inovative way for people to follow one another and it is going to take off once more people get in on it. Speaking of which twittering was just mentioned in a commercial on WGN radio. This could easily be the next google. Hopefully my experiences get better with twitter as rolls on.
