For What It's Worth

Denis Leary and other random thoughts.

Saturday night I went to see The Rescue Me Comedy Tour at the Chicago Theater. The producers of Rescue Me told Denis Leary to do a comedy show in order to remind fans that the show is back. Not a bad way to get the word out. Leary wasn’t as sinical as he has been in the past. I’m sure you’ve seen video or clips of the chain smoking Leary and spouting there is no cure for cancer. This time was different. He was less angry, actually I take that back he was still angry, but funny nonetheless.

He had two cast members from the show with him as well. Comedy legend Lenny Clarke and Adam Ferrara. They were all pretty good. I have to say that Ferrara was the best. He did a few things with his voice that made me laugh a little harder. I’m big on voices because I can do a few cartoon as well as celebrity impersonations myself so I always appreciate funny voices. The show was good and I’m glad I got to see a few comedy legends. Dane Cook, Louie C.K. and Daniel Tosh are all coming to town in the next few months. I’d really like to see them. Opening Day on Monday was pretty sweet.

Despite the shitty weather the Cubs took care of business and got the W. W’s and Opening Day just go together. Granit it was cold as hell and just absolutely miserable weather for Opening Day. Regardless of the weather conditions you put up with the weather because it is Opening Day. Lilly flirted with a no-hitter until the 7th can’t ask for more then that. I went to the game on Wednesday as well and while Jason Marquis came back to own us ridiculously I made up for it by meeting Michael J. Fox.

When I heard he was going to be at the game I made it my mission to meet him. One because I’m a huge BTTF fan and two because MJF is awesome. So I was going to try my damnest to meet him and I succeeded. He seemed pretty cool with taking pictures, but didn’t say much of anything after I complemented him on his performance on Rescue Me on Tuesday night. I was discussing the show with someone and they said the best line that was said on TV  in five years was when  Fox said, ” Hey Janet I think I got a boner.” Ah good ol’ Fox.

Needless to say that if I know a celebrity is going to be at a Cubs game I’m going to try and meet them. Interesting enough I almost met Kiefer Sutherland at Q101. A friend of mine who is interning there called me up to tell me that he was there doing an interview so needless to say I got out of class and made my way over to the Merchandise Mart.

Unfortunately I just missed him. Damn that would’ve made my week, nay my year if I met Jack Bauer. But it was not to be. Perhaps I will meet him at the House of Blues when one of his bands on his labels will be there to perform. I look forward to that on Saturday.

I also listened to another podcast. I’m hooked on this these now. It was with Seth MacFarlane. There is a dangerous combination of Carolla and MacFarlane. Especially when they were drinking and doing the show at the same time. It was funny as hell as well as inciteful. I also listened to one with Bryan Cranston, the dad from Malcolm in the Middle, now on Breaking Bad. It wasn’t as good as the MacFarlane podcast, but still interesting. Well that is all I’ve got for now.
